These days, everything is vying for our attention. Our immediate surroundings and, debatably equally, the whole world via our technology. Work, family, television, incoming calls, to-do lists, news, music, games, friends, weekend plans, emails, and much more can capture our attention at any given moment. With only so much time, it is important to focus throughout the day on what deserves your focus, and not on what doesn’t. Now, please don’t confuse this with discerning the distinction between want and need. Yes, that is important, but not the whole story.
I’m sure you’ve heard about balance. It’s important to balance priorities, do what needs to be done, and make time for family. Just as important, we must put aside time to care for ourselves, and realize that, sometimes, taking a step back is more important than continually pushing forward.
In short, stop and compare the things that are vying for your attention and determine which of them is more worthy of your time. Now, this will be different for everyone. Everyone has their own unique life experiences, values, and personality that uniquely determine what is ‘right’ for them.
So, ultimately, you are the only one that can truly tell you ‘which is more worthy of your time’.
